Meaning - If a colour or light is subdued, it's not very bright

Eg - Subdued lighting.

- Quiet or depressed

Eg - Most of the fans were subdued, quietly waiting for the race to start.

- If a person is subdued, they are not as happy as usual or they are quieter than usual.

Eg - He seemed a bit subdued at lunch - is he all okay?

- To get control of a violent or dangerous person or group by using force, punishment etc.

Eg -  a) The troops were finally able to subdue the rebel forces after many days of fighting.

b) He was injured while trying to subdue a violent drunk.

- To get control of something such as a strong emotion.

Eg- She struggled to subdued her fears.
